Evan and Jessie's adventure wedding in Moab, Utah

Red Rock · Endless Sky

Moab Elopement Films

Desert weddings in Arches, Canyonlands, and Castle Valley — 2.5 hours from my door in Durango.

Light that turns everything gold, twice a day. Moab is my neighboring backyard, not a fly-in job.

I'm Rees Gibbons, and I've filmed adventure weddings in Moab's canyon country — Evan & Jessie's film below. Most Colorado videographers treat Moab as a destination; for me it's a Tuesday drive.

The desert is brutal on timelines: midday light is harsh and flat, spring winds hammer audio, summer heat compresses the day into golden mornings and evenings. I build Moab elopements around sunrise or sunset ceremonies, record vow audio with wind protection that actually works, and scout backups for when a trailhead lot fills.

Where to elope in Moab

Permits differ wildly between the national parks and state land — I handle the research for every booking.

01

Arches National Park

La Sal Viewpoint and The Windows at sunrise — ceremony permits required.

02

Dead Horse Point

The canyon-rim panorama with easier permitting.

03

Canyonlands · Island in the Sky

Vast mesa views, fewer crowds.

04

Fisher Towers & Castle Valley

The cinematic classics along the Colorado River.

05

Under Canvas & private venues

Glamping weekend celebrations under desert stars.

Desert filming is its own craft

Your ceremony belongs within two hours of sunrise or sunset. Desert midday light is the least flattering you'll ever be filmed in — I schedule around it ruthlessly.

Questions, answered

How much does a Moab elopement videographer cost?
From $4,000 for six hours of coverage. Durango is 2.5 hours away, so travel costs stay minimal compared to videographers flying in.
Do we need a permit to elope in Moab?
Yes for the national parks — Arches and Canyonlands require special-use permits with designated ceremony sites. Dead Horse Point is often simpler. I handle the research.
When is the best time to elope in Moab?
March–May and September–November. Summer works with a sunrise ceremony; winter is underrated — quiet trails and snow dusting the red rock.
Do you film in both Utah and Colorado?
Yes — Moab pairs naturally with my Colorado elopement work. Some couples do desert vows and a mountain celebration in one trip.
