The Switzerland of America
Ouray Elopement Films
Waterfalls at the edge of Main Street, alpine basins twenty minutes out — 75 minutes down the Million Dollar Highway from my door.
The town sits in a bowl of 13,000-foot peaks. Within twenty minutes you can stand in an alpine basin that looks unreal on camera. Ouray elopements are some of my favorite films to make.
Photos capture Ouray's scale; film captures its sound — waterfalls, wind through the basin, your vows echoing off rock. I often film couples' arrival over Red Mountain Pass as the opening scene.
Where to elope around Ouray
Box Cañon requires city permission; alpine sites fall under the Forest Service. Permit research included.
Yankee Boy Basin
Wildflowers in July, jagged peaks year-round — 4x4 access I can help arrange.
Box Cañon Falls
Dramatic, intimate, and steps from town.
Perimeter Trail overlooks
Big views with an easy walk.
Crystal Lake · Red Mountain Pass
Mirror-still reflections on the Million Dollar Highway.
Ouray Hot Springs & Main Street
For the celebration after the vows.
Why Ouray works on film
The drive itself becomes part of your story — arrival over Red Mountain Pass makes an opening scene no ballroom can match.
