Colorado's Wildest Range
The San Juan Mountains
Molas Pass, Ice Lakes, Silverton, and the Million Dollar Highway — filmed by the videographer who lives here.
I'm Rees Gibbons, based in Durango at the southern edge of the range. I've spent years filming weddings and scouting locations here — one of my favorite films ever, Hannah & Brad's, was made in these mountains.
The San Juans punish videographers who fly in the night before. Monsoon storms arrive nearly on schedule in July and August; passes close in shoulder seasons; drone rules change between Forest Service districts and wilderness boundaries. I plan timelines around the range's moods because I live in them.
